Moving to Fort Collins, Colorado...Any and All comments, advice, must do, must avoids, etc greatly appreciated? |
Travel Info My husband's company is transferring him to Fort Collins from north Georgia in the summer of 2008. I know it was voted the best place to live by money magazine, so I though it sounded good. I am in my 30's and love the outdoors, my husband is in his 40's and also loves the outdoors and especially flyfishing. When we move our daughter will be 3 and our son will be 14. Any and All comments, advice, must do, must avoids, etc. from people who know about Fort Collins will be greatly appreciated Travel Tips Ft Collins is a beautiful town, not too big, but still with some city comforts and just close enough the mountains. I recommend the poudre river for your husbands fly fishing. I dont recommend going east of I-25 though, especially with wind coming from the east, you can sometimes get a wiff of cow pastures...anyway...you will like it. Welcome to Colorado Source(s): Native Colorad(o)an 35 years Other Travel Tips its a great place to live no worries it is costly but you get a cost of living allowance or cola.people are great was there 2 years ago Fort Collins is known for being a college town. Colorado State University is located there. You will be surrounded by college kids! But, it is a WONDERFUL place to live. People who move there, usually stay there. Check out Austin's Steak house, Big City Burrito, and Mugs coffee! Also, you can fish and tube at the Poudre river. Have fun! I went to CSU. #1 must do..............Drink plenty of water, especially the little one. Very easy to dehydrate here in this dry climate and take it easy for the first few weeks until you get used to the altitude. I 'm from back east and you won't miss the humidity and you'll will enjoy over 300 days a year of sunshine and no rainy days I just moved from Fort Collins. It's one of those bigger towns with a smaller town feel. As was stated...drink lots of water and be prepared with the aspirin (I still have to take them when we go to the mountains). If you like the theater there is the Lincoln Center. You can tour breweries. There are over 30 miles of bike trails. I think in the summer they do movies outside in Old Town....lots of shopping. You are only an hour or so from Denver and there is lots to do there. They are building a ton on the south side of town (and CSU is more north). The medical facilites are great. One big downfall is the traffic.....there are less cars in the summer, but a ton more construction! Good luck and welcome to Colorado!! |
