Travel Tips The most affordable suburbs near Denver are probably (in no particular order) Lakewood/Arvada, Thornton, Aurora and Golden. Aurora is huge and so depends a lot on where you are, but it does have a reputation for having higher crime than the rest of Denver. The most affordable housing in Denver is probably in Aurora. Lakewood/Arvada and parts of Thornton are older, but for the most part affordable and family-oriented. Golden has parts that are very inexpensive and its proximity to the mountains makes it a good choice for family recreation. South Denver (Cherry Creek, Highlands Ranch, etc) and Boulder are much more expensive. These are of course overgeneralizations based on my limited personal experience, but I hope it helps anyway. I don't have really anything to add as to where in the Denver area is most family oriented, I think it's all subjective and depends on many factors, specifically what you and your family are looking for. I have lived all over the metro area, Aurora, Englewood, Littleton, Denver, etc. and found all areas that I experienced to be family friendly.
