What is a good Denver neighborhood for a 30 something single woman? |
Travel Info What is a good Denver neighborhood for a 30 something single woman? Travel Tips For a single person, definitely NOT Highlands Ranch or Stapleton (as the first two posters above suggested), which are both suburban planned comunity family areas. Stapleton is a new community that was built for young families that wanted a nice area with a 'town center' of sorts and couldn't afford/didn't want to pay for closer in family-friendly areas like Wash Park, Bonnie Brae or Cherry Creek. And Highlands Ranch is the definition of sprawl. It's nowhere near Denver, and it was another one of those super suburban, planned communities. I would second Highlands, which is in north Denver and is definitely a younger singles scene with lots of great bars and restaurants. Similar to Highlands is the Uptown area of Denver, which also has bars, restaurants, etc. It should be said, however, that both Highlands and Uptown might be considered somewhat sketch at night in terms of safety for a female wandering around alone. LoDo (Lower Downtown) is another fantastic place for a mid-30s single woman - it has the attributes of Uptown and Highlands (bars, restaurants, etc.), has some really high-end condos and lofts and, as the name implies, is very conveniently located to downtown, being just directly to the north of it. You would be able to walk to work anywhere in the downtown area. If you're looking for something a little less urban but still lively, there are some big apartment buildings on the edge of the Wash Park area (which is named after the massive park that inhabits the neighborhood) and lots of singles walk their very cute golden retrievers in the park. Wash Park is about 15 minutes from downtown. But keep in mind that the more residential areas of Wash Park are wholly comprised of families. Hope this helps. It's reasonably close to downtown, but has a new urbanism feel. Lots of choices in home styles and retail close by, along with social groups for the residents. (http://www.stapletondenver.com/)... Otherwise, downtown and neighborhoods like Cherry Creek and Washington (Wash) Park are places where you'll find a lot of young urbanites. Prices are higher, but location is excellent. I would suggest The Highlands area, around 26th and Lowell. Its a very up-and-coming area and they have some sweet condos going in. |
