What's it Like living in Colorado? |
Travel Info My Fiance and I are looking into moving to Colorado from Oregon in the next couple years. It's just too expensive here in Oregon, from gas to housing prices. And the crime rate is out the bum here. We are looking at moving to Boulder. But my question is: What is it like living there? Gas, Crime and housing costs? I want to know before I take the dive. Travel Tips Housing will be high in Boulder. Gasoline, where I'm at in Colorado, is running $3.25 a gallon. Oh yes, and one you probably didn't think about....auto insurance. Colorado has the highest rate of uninsured motorists in the nation. That means expensive car insurance. The biggest thing you should know about Boulder...it is an expensive and an incredibly liberal city. Colorado, generally, is a conservative state. However, Boulder, the people, is ultra right wing. I'm not saying if this is good/bad as I'm not one to talk politics....but if you are, and you're a conservative Republican, just be warned. Now, Boulder, the city, it incredibly goregous. It is surrounded by beautiful views of the mountains. It has a great night life. It has great shopping. And it has incredbily dedicated college football fans. It is a neat city. Source(s): Colorado Native...and Proud of it! Other Travel Tips I don't think there is really a significant amount of crime in Boulder. It is beautiful. Housing prices in Boulder are high but in neighboring areas like Longmont or Broomfield are lower. Gas in Boulder is a little higher than in where I live in Parker. (My mom and sister live in Boulder/Longmont). Right now gas where I live is 3.15 and in Boulder is 3.19 so not much of a difference really. Anyway, Boulder is a great town. I like it a lot. Colorado is an amazing place to live. It does get cold in the winter, but alternately, it's hot in the summer. There is everything to do here, from shopping to hiking, camping, being outdoors is amazing. Crime isn't too bad here, its just as revalent as it is eveyrwhere else. Gas, unfortunately, SPIKES like crazy when it goes up. It just jumpe 15 cents, and is now at 3.18. Houses are pretty much average, they're cheaper if you move to an area that is currently under going to "track house" phase. Ugly houses all lined up right next to each other. :[ It all depends on where you go. I live SOuth of Colorado Springs, but it is lovely around Denver. Experience You have to think of the popularity of the mountains. This makes it a little more expencive to leve here. I just moved from Denver to Grand Junction and it is expencive everywhere. The crime is o.k. everywhere except Down Town Denver and Aurora. That is where the gangs are. But I lived down town and was fine. I am single and didn't have anything to worry about. We live in NJ, but have had a second home in Colorado for almost 20 years. We try to get out about three times a year, and miss it when we don't get there. I can tell you best how I feel about Colorado, by relating the following story: ------------------------------... A fellow walked into a church in LA and told the priest that he wanted to talk to God. The priest told the guy that they had a phone that would allow him to speak to God, but that it cost $5000! The guy didn't have $5000 so he left. Then he walked into a church in NYC and told that priest there that he wanted to talk to God. The priest told the guy that they had a phone that would allow him to speak to God, but that it cost $10,000! The guy didn't have $10,000 so he left. Then the guy walked into a church in Colorado and told that priest that he wanted to talk to God. The priest told him that they had a phone that would allow him to speak to God, and that it only cost $1.00. The fellow said to the priest that he didn't understand how that was possible, since the call costs $5000 in LA and $10,000 in NYC. Here it comes - get ready. . . . . . . The priest responded to him that in Colorado its a local call!! |
