I want to move to Colorado this fall - I have no idea how to do it - any suggestions??

Travel Info
I need to find a job (how can I get hired when I work and live in a different state) and I need to find an apartment and I need to get there... has anyone else made a move to another state? How did it go? Any suggestions??

Travel Tips
First make sure you can get a job in whatever you do. monster.com and Craig's list might be some of the places to check. ~

With the help of a moving company!
I moved to Denver from TX 10 yrs ago but fortunately had a job transfer. I then lived with family initially until figuring out what area I wanted to live. Craigslist also has areas of people looking to share housing, roomates. I would say finding the job first is the most important thing, then everything should fall into place as far as where you want to live, how & what you can afford, etc. Some employers may be willing to pay for moving expenses if you are a viable candidate for their company. Good luck!
you need to save some money so if you dont have a job right away you can survive. find a temporary living situation on craigslist. if you can leave you big stuff in storage do that until you get settled
I moved to a different state for graduate school. I was able to visit first a few months before hand for an "open house" that the school was having. That helped a lot!! I was able to get a feel for the city I was moving to and the school I would be attending. I was also able to meet with people and ask questions and get advice about where to live and good places to work (while as student). I also made some friends. I would highly recommend visiting first if you can. If nothing else, it helps with the nerves.
Secondly, I drove because I couldn't afford to fly or ship my stuff. I sold most of my stuff beforehand to make some money, and also because I was planning to buy new stuff while there anyway. I bought a cheap air mattress so I wouldn't have to sleep on the floor between when I arrived and when I bought a real bed. I also had money saved to live on when I arrived and before I could find a job. I packed my car with whatever I could and that's all I took. Everything else, I left at home with family to have shipped down as I'm able to afford it. Garage sales are a beautiful thing. (Spend a day or two after you arrive in your new home just going garage sale-ing. You can get a lot of great stuff that way!)
As far as a job, I had money saved to live on for a while when I arrived and before I could find a job. But I arrived a couple weeks before school started specifically so that I could job search. It wasn't hard to find a job pretty quickly. But it depends on the job you are looking for - if you're a professional, like a doctor or teacher, I would recommend making sure there are openings in your field and setting a job up before you arrive. There are some good online job search directories online, like monster.com, or got-a-job that can help.
If you're moving for school or something similar, you can get on websites for your school in CO or other schools in CO and try to find recommended housing lists. They had one for my school. You could also try to get in contact with people (via internet most likely) who live where you're moving and see if you can get recommendations. Online sites, like rent.com or something similar are good places to find apartments - you can see pics and everything. You can also stay in a hotel for a few days in CO while you apartment hunt. It's always best, though, to find an apartment before you arrive - either by visiting prior to the move, or going online. Especially if you're having your stuff professionally moved - they'll want an address.
Either way, arrive with a sufficient amount in savings and a good map. See if you have friends or family who may have friends or family in CO who can help or in case of an emergency. It always helps if you know someone in a new location.
Sorry this is long, but I know how stressful a big move can be! Hope it goes well! You're going to love Colorado!! (I grew up there)
