Smart move...Denver to Austin? |
Travel Info My boyfriend and I recently visited the Austin area (to include Roundrock, Georgetown and the area near Lake Travis). We are young (late 20's/early 30's), fit, plan to marry and have no children. He's a software engineer and I'm in healthcare (Occupational Therapy). And we are looking for a change (especially after this last CO winter). We still desire a lifestyle that is similar to CO in the Spring/Summer months (warm weather, lots of outdoor activities, decent nightlife, yummy restaurants, etc.). We looked at home prices and found it to be much cheaper (although we're not sure how the property taxes work). Some insight/advice from any Coloradoans who have moved to Austin would be great. But, any insight from the locals is much appreciated. Thanks in advance. Travel Tips I moved from Dallas to Boulder. Property taxes in Texas compared to Colorado are high. But the overall cost of living and amount of house you can get compared to here is huge. So much cheaper to live in Texas. You won't have state income tax and registering a vehicle in Texas costs next to nothing. In all honesty, we were so happy to leave Texas. I hated the weather. But if we ever did have to move back, Austin would be the place. It is similar to Boulder lifestyle wise. For me, the heat/humidity is unbearable and there are no mountains :) It was a big sticker shock moving here from Dallas. So in our experience, while things like your property taxes might be outrageous compared to here, other things are much less expensive. Good luck in your decision! Others Sorry, but you should look into the property taxes here. Even with your CO state income tax added to your CO property tax, you would pay much more here in just TX property taxes alone. (we have no TX income tax.) Texas resident If you don't like heat and humidity...think twice... try WY. its great only a little colder in spots. ive lived in torrington though and its like a little colorado only the winter isnt so cold...or snowy for that matter :) |
