How much snow is on the roads in Boulder/Broomfield? |
Travel Info I am moving up in a month and have a car that is too lightweight to run on ANY snow. In the winter, do they typically get all snow off the roads, or are there long stretches with snow/ice on the roads? I'm also thinkinng about trading in the ol car for a new one (if I won't be able to drive it). Bonus points for good, safe, AWD midsize car recommendations! Travel Tips They are really good about getting the snow off the major roads here. The side roads and neighborhoods take some time. Aside from this past winter, when it snows it usually warms up the next day and melts most of it anyway. I have a 4wd truck and I hardly use the 4wd. Subaru's are very popular here for their Awd. Others I drive a 2001 front wheel drive Ford Focus, it does great in the snow. I live about 30 min. south of Denver, 1 hour south of Boulder. It's unusual for the roads not to be clear and dry within 24 hours after it stops snowing . the intense sunshine does a fast job on the snow as well as the road depts. Don't fall the car dealers line " you have to have 4 or all wheel drive" unless you plan on hitting the slopes all season. get a Subaru. You'll fir right in and it can handle the roads, though they are usually only rough a few days out of the whole winter. But its worth it for piece of mind |
