4th of July? |
Travel Info What is a good place to go for the 4th of July weekend , I live near Detroit, Michigan. Travel Tips Are you looking to stay a couple days, a day trip, or what? Here's a radical idea but why don't you visit Detroit? If you like sports, you could visit Comerica Park (Tigers are on the road this next week), Ford Field (I think you can actually walk through part of it) and the Joe. I think Tastefest is going on. There's the science center, the zoo (technically in Royal Oak), casinos, Greektown, Greenfield Village and Henry Ford Museum (Dearborn), Belle Isle, visit the Ren Cen/GM headquarters, you can go to Windsor, etc. etc.; you know noone comes downtown so it is not likely to be crowded. Other Michigan suggestions if you are turned off by Detroit include my neck of the woods- Port Huron(shoot me a message for ideas; I'm going to St. Clair which is @10 miles south for their fireworks on the 4th), Bay City is always nice and usually has some kind of fair/festival going on or as NYman said (Hey NYman) there is always Frankenmuth; actually you can do Frankenmuth and Bay City both since they are like 30 minutes apart. There are plenty of nice towns, cities and villages along both the Lake Michigan and Lake Huron shorelines (you can message me for suggestions) but I'm betting they will all be swamped with tourists this next week and I'm also guessing getting accomodations could be difficult. I'm also guessing that Kalamazoo/Battle Creek may be fairly "uncongested" this week and both usually have some cool things to see and do also. Others Taste of Chicago Hop a plane, Spirit Airlines or Northwest and come to the Big Apple. Otherwise, go to Frankenmuth Mi. http://www.frankenmuth.org/ i reccomend going to your city department or give them a call they have this info. Good luck. |
