I want take a 2 day vacation in southern MI.? |
Travel Info I need to be within 1.5 hours of detroit or 2.5 of Toledo, oHio.Any ideas for us. We like good food, jazz and a nice hotel or resort. My mother is in a wheelchair. Thanks for any advice. Someone suggested Port Huron? Travel Tips Port Huron is a bit far from Toledo. Takes about 2 hours according to mapquest. And there has been a lot of construction along I-75 near the Ohio border and I know a few people who have said it has taken them well over 4 hours from Detroit. So you may want to be closer. Therefore, I would suggest Royal Oak. Royal Oak is one of the most active cities in Michigan. Commonly there are people doing shows on the sidewalk such as music, there are many bars and music theaters, jazz bars, really great restaurants, fun places to go. It is a nice community and it also has quick access to I-75 and I-696. There is a lot to do along Main St. and Washington Ave. Restaurants include, Tom's Oyster Bar, Mr. B's, Mongolian BBQ, Pronto, Astoria (excellent pastry), Gelato Roma, Qboda, Memphis Smoke, Beriut, and then there is the the Detroit Zoo in Royal Oak. There are many hotels along I-696 and Woodward Ave. near Royal Oak.Have a fun trip. Source(s): I go out a lot, if not Royal Oak I would suggest Ann Arbor. Other Travel Tips port Huron isn't really in S. Mich.,try Kalamazoo, or if you want a fun but not real busy schedule, try the wine festival in Paw Paw,or a week at Lake Mich. in South Haven,or St. Joseph port huron is nice, it's definately in the distace you suggested, kalamazoo is farther than 1.5 hours from detroit. not sure when you are looking to travel, but the port huron to mackinac race in july 13-15. The Lansing area is only about 1/5 hours from Detroit. We just moved to the Okemos area and LOVE it here. Just from driving around Lansing there is lots to do. Clubs, summer activities, concerts, etc... Lots of unique great places to eat also. Dearborn area, The Henry Ford, that's Greenfield Village and Henry Ford Museum. Also many museums and Art gallery in Detroit. Lots to do and see in Detroit. Check the web sites. Why don't you check out Ann Arbor? Summer is definitely the time to do it - when the students aren't around. It is a city, though, and most of the reasonable hotels are a short car-trip from the center of town. There's a nice art museum on campus, too. The firefly http://www.fireflyclub.com/home.htm... is a nice jazz place there, I've heard. And good food? The choices are endless. Avoid art fair weekend July 19-22 if your mother can't do huge crowds. It's not rowdy or anything, just super crowded. If you like art fairs, that's one to go to but it might be too late to get a hotel and it's anything but relaxing. |
