Nice Campgrounds Near Sleeping Bear Dunes Michigan? |
Travel Info Hi, we want to camp and head to the dunes this summer. Anything within an hour driving would be nice. If anyone has some good ideas of campgrounds in the area, we would appreciate it. Wooded, with easy access to Lake Michigan and Sleeping Bear Dunes themselves. 89 rustic vehicle-accessible sites. Vault toilets, drinking water, limited generator use permitted, firewood available. No reservations except for group sites which require them in summer, $3/night. $12/$30 per night (individual/group) plus park pass. Platte River Campground, NPS, (southern section of the park), +1 231-325-5881. Open year-round, but some portions closed November through April. Wooded, a short hike to Lake Michigan. 179 sites, including RV, tent, walk-in, and group sites. Toilets, drinking water, pay showers, firewood available. Some sites can be reserved in summer, group sites require reservations, $3/night. $12/$15/$21/$40 per night (walk-in/non-electric/electric... plus park pass. Sleepy Bear Campground, 6760 W. Empire Hwy. M-72 (3 miles east of Empire), +1 231-326-5566. [9] Open mid-May thru September. 150+ sites, including RV (full hook-ups), tent, rustic cabin, and group sites. Others When I was there in the mid-1970s, there were campgrounds right at the dunes; a state park, I think. I remember the ambitious of our crowd went climbing the dunes in the dark, and they were right there where we could see them coming down. Yes, Plate river National park. tubing, hiking, swiming, clean, nice sites. There is a nice State campground in Traverse City. Not to far of a drive to Sleeping Bear Dunes. hoffmaster |
