Stray dogs in Detroit..WHY?!?

I live near Detroit and see stray dogs everywhere. I have rescued a few that are skin and bones and taken them to the Humane Society. I see them dead on the side of the road everyday.. I have called Animal Control many many times.. On the days that they answer the phone they say they will come out to get the dog if they have time..What's going on? I have never seen so many helpless dogs, it's disgusting. I could drive around and try to rescue them all day long but I know that's not the problem. I asked Animal Control why there are soooo many and they said because the people of Detroit are poor and they dont want the responsibility of feeding an animal, so they let it go into the streets... Something needs to be done.. ???

When I did live in detroit down the street from my house there was a house that had dog fights which are illegal. Good luck getting the cops out. It wasn't a "Major" crime. Meanwhile if they dog didnt perfom properly they would let them go. I found one covered in gasoline like they were going to light him on fire. Its a sick sad world. I have one dog I purchased from the humane society. The other is a stray dog that my daughter fell in love with. PLease get your pets fixed.

I live in Detroit too, and I see so many stray dogs it's ridiculous. I too once called Animal Control when I saw two Pit Bulls roaming around my house. Did they come? Nope. My one concern with all the stray dogs is that someone will get hurt, especially children. I remember when a poor little girl was mauled to death by a pair of Pit Bulls not too long ago, and you would think that would prompt Animal Services to get off their butts and crack down on the situation, but they can't afford to because Kilpatrick needs the money for his mansion parties and SUVs (but that's another rant).
When I was near Rome, Italy there were stray dogs everywhere. More than you would ever see in Detroit. I live near Detroit and it is nothing like it is over in Europe with stray animals. Sure something needs to be done but who is going to do it? The Humane Society can't do it for all the animals. So you would have to depend on the kindness of people. Other than that, can't do anything.
dogs are being neglected because the tigers are (were) on fire, and the lions haven't lost (yet). but seriously, yer concern is a start. just keep doing wat u can do.
Too many people that just don't care. They have dogs for the wrong reasons, and don't take care of them. And, then the city isn't in the financial condition to respond to all it's problems, stray dogs, trash, crime, blight, etc.

But, the cause is the people who have the dogs and then just let them go, or let them reproduce without really wanting the puppies.
