Travel Info Is there such thing as south detroit? Travel Tips South Detroit was created by the band Journey to facilitate the rhyming of some of their simple song lyrics. There are many communities South of Detroit (Wyandotte, Grosse Isle, Allen Park, etc.) but no such community known as South Detroit. Others Of course there is. Its the part of Detroit that is along the Detroit river. Yes. Just like there is a South Texas and a North Texas. But there isn't an official organized area called South Detroit like there is for East Detroit. There is a South Detroit in South Dakota (google it!) and there is also Detroit, Michigan.
