Travel Tips The place is a cultural wasteland...People were still wearing mullets here about two years ago... The weather sucks in the summer due to the humidity, The weather sucks in the winter due to the cold, although this year its been pretty good. IF it weren't for auto industry jobs, this place would still be a big corn field. There really isnt a good reason for detroit to exsist anymore. A lack of leadership with vision has meant the city just continues to go down the tubes. The previous mayor archer was doing a good job, but the blacks called him a sell out because he was trying to turn the city around, and forced him out. Others Because it is too cold and wet in the winter time to suit me. theres lots of crap on the street I am from Canada. I had to drive through Detroit to get to I75 hwy. All I can say- lock your doors and drive fast through Detroit and don't stop!! That is what i said to the others in the car when we took a look around Been a industrial type of area (Detroit and SE Michigan) for a LONNNG time, lot of old closed up auto factories, never dawned on anyone to tear them down and start over inthe same spot, noooo, just abandon them and start somewhere a few miles away. Or now in Mexico or Canada. MOST of Michigan is very nice. Detroit and area has very bad crime rating too. I think I saw on Oprah that it is the largest city with the most poverty in the country.
