Good Romantic Weekend ideas? (Michigan Near Detroit)? |
Travel Info Looking for ideas that are romantic and cheep for a long weekend. I live near Detroit, and am willing to drive. Any help? Thanks Travel Tips I am from a near east burb of Detroit (Grosse Pointe)...and, believe it or not, I recommend...Detroit! There are tons of great romantic things to do downtown...Ice skating at Campus Martius Park under the stars, great theater (check schedules at the Fisher Theater, Fox Theater, Gem and Century theaters and 1515 Broadway). There are also plenty of nice, intimate restaurants. My favorites are Atlas Global Bistro, The Majestic Cafe, Cuisine (in the New Center area), and a tapas-style restaurant called Small Plates. Don't overlook the Detroit Institute of arts (with a GREAT film theater - dia.org/dft), and the brand new MOCAD - Museum of Contemporary Art Detroit. As for romantic lodging, I recommend the Inn on Ferry Street bed and breakfast or Woodbridge Star bed and breakfast. Both romantic, restored turn-of-the-century homes with great service. The major hotels downtown are good too...Marroitt RenCen, Hilton Garden Inn, and Atheneum. All are close to the 3 casinos (though roullette wheels arent my idea of romance) and near the people mover which can take you anyhwre you wanna go downtown. Source(s): This is all from personal experience. Other Travel Tips Well, Niagara Falls is only about four hours away. Stay at a nice bed & breakfast on the river. It's not very cheap, though. Everything seems to be rather expensive there. Maybe you could rent a cabin at one of the state parks or something for the weekend and relax by the fireplace. Frankenmuth is a cute little town and the Bavarian Inn hotel is great. Check out the Michigan.gov website. It has weekend getaway ideas. Good luck! Go to sweet gorgia brown Try Mackinaw Island or Traverse City, Harbor Springs I say there is enough to do right here in Mich. Try driving up to Frankenmuth and staying 1-2 nights, the Bavarian Inn has packages available and there are lots of things to see and do in 'muth. It is a pretty cool place, great food and shopping, micro-brewery, fudge shop, specialty stores (your date would love to check them out), you can take her for a ride downtown in a horse drawn carriage. Check it out online if ya want. I've stayed there twice in the last 5-yrs, it's maybe an hour or little more away from Detroit, and worth the drive. OMG go to the auto show, it's on till next week,,,,,,,,, and then go to Greek town,,,,,,,,there is some really yummy restaurants, and you could catch a show at the theater, or maybe see a concert at the BEAUTIFUL FOX THEATER!!!!! and then at night when it's quiet take her to the top of the Renaissance Center, |
