Travel Info Why is Detroit so depressing? Travel Tips I don't think Detroit is depressing i think its your opinion it depends on how you look at it yes crime rate is high in Detroit but hasn't beaten the Camden city in new jersey so it can't be that bad and if big companies like GM,Ford,Delphi start laying people off i bet your city would be the same way and don't forget Pistons belong to Detroit red wings and don't forget the big casinos in downtown are aw some been there once....so you tell me where you from ???? Others It's passed it's prime and has yet to redefine itself and it's city planning and urban design need a face life (ala Pittsburgh and Cleveland). A friend just told me that Detroit is really run down and dangerous. Even the nicest places there are shabby - things are old and boarded up, crime is high. It's a hearsy I am telling you - never been there myself. Because coleman young looted the place. Unemployment. I don't live in Detroit , I live about an hour away. But from being there, it's mostly because of all the economically probelms going on in Michigan going on right not, Detroit was hit hard. Causing stores to close and building to be boarded up. With all the econmioally probelms the crime rate rises. The city is over populated and the housing is often low income and the building aren't takening care of. The city isn't being taken care of that well, and is becoming "dirty". Detroit isn't as much of a tourist area it once was so less money is going in. Which is causing people like Jay Leno to insult Detroit. Michigan is depressing in general. all of us young people want to just get out, because it seems there is no future here. i guess that would make detroit depressing, because thats our big city, if it was booming and economically doing great, it might give us some hope.but i have always been will always be, a detroit girl, grew up here, spent all my best times here, nobody can tell me its the most awful place in the world because its not, it just needs some help, which doesnt seem to be coming any time soon. |
