ISs the international airport and the domestic airport in the same terminal in DETROIT ? |
Travel Info IF NOT WHAT IS THE TRAVEL TIME BETWEEN THE TWO ? / Travel Tips There are a three terminals within the Detroit Metro complex: Berry, McNamara and Smith. Berry Terminal is for air travel charters and doesn't apply to your question. The biggest and newest terminal is named the Ed McNamara terminal and KLM, Air France, Northwest, Lufthansa fly out of there. Air Canada, Air Tran, Frontier, United among others fly out of the Smith Terminal which is older and is not as modern. Hence, it depends on which airline you are using. For example, if you're coming in on Air Tran but flying out on Lufthansa, you will have to take the shuttle from Smith to McNamara. It will take you 15 - 20 minutes to take the shuttle bus. It is a bit of a hassle, but folks do it all the time. The trick will be to arrive well ahead of time if you are switching airlines. "Well ahead of time" means 3 - 4 hours. You will not be allowed to jump off one airline, run through the airport, and jump on another plane. Sorry, but the reality of airport security will slow you down. The McNamara is very nice and is well appointed to accommodate your needs. I mean, for an airport, it is pretty nice. EDIT: If you are staying on Northwest you will have no troubles at all. You will fly into, and out of, the McNamarra Terminal. Check with Northwest about the time required to clear customs, but I think 2 hours will be fine. Good luck. Source(s): http://www.metroairport.com/ Other Travel Tips There are two terminals at Detroit Metro Airport -- the older and smaller Smith Terminal, and the newer addition of McNamara Terminal. Most international airlines fly into the McNamara terminal. But you can't know which terminal you'll be at unless you know which airline(s) you're flying. As a general rule, Northwest would fly into McNamara, and Spirit would fly into Smith, for example. (see http://www.metroairport.com/information/... The distance between the two terminals is significant, and you have to take a shuttle. But they go at regular intervals to make it easy on passengers who have to go between the two. Here is a map of the Airport http://www.metroairport.com/maps/airline... Safe travels! Would depend on what airlines you were flying on. That would determine what terminal you would be at. Both Terminals are on the same airport and have a bus between the two. They might be a 10 minute ride and there are rides every few minutes. Good Luck. |
