What's the best travel plan from Detroit (MI) to Austin (TX)? |
Travel Info What's the best travel plan from Detroit (MI) to Austin (TX)? Travel Tips Wow... I used to drive that very same route all the time... You can either drive or fly.. There are 2 ways you can drive there.. South on I-75 to I-71 in to louisville. Take I- 265 around louisville to I-65 south in to Nashville. Take I-40 West in to Little rock's I-440 west, then I-30 West all in Little Rock... Then take I-30 in to Dallas where you hit I-635 south, to I-20 west, to I-35 south into Austin. Or you can take I-75 south to Dayton Ohio, to I-70 west into St. Louis.. Merge on to I-44 west all the way to Oklahoma City, then merge on to I-35 south all the way to Austin. Either way, the drive time from Detroit to Austin is about 20 hours. Of course you can fly too..... Source(s): Im originally from Detroit and was stationed at Ft. Hood, Tx. (about 45 minutes north of Austin). Other Travel Tips Haven't looked at the schedule in a couple of weeks, but you should be able to get 1-stop flight on Northwest Airlines and possibly a non-stop. Good luck If it were me, I would use Amtrak! They have a frequent train route call the Wolverine to Chicago and a single connection to the Texas Eagle train from there to Austin. If driving, I-94 westbound, I-294, I-55, I-44, I-35 there it is! I too take that trip several times a year...I go to New Braunfels,Tx. which is just south of Austin. Dan gave you excellent directions. Good Luck. |
