Do you believe casinos help the tourism industry in Detroit? Why or why not? |
Travel Info Do you believe MGM Grand Casino, Greektown Casino, and Motor City Casino helps the tourism industry in Detroit? Why or why not? Travel Tips Of course it is good for the tourism industy. I live in the downtown area and while the casinos actually bring out of town visitors, detroit has yet to experience it full throttle due to the casinos not having their hotels up and running. Then we will see more foot traffic than we do now. Keep in mind though, the main goal of the casino operator is to keep the guests within the constraints of their facilities. That is why the have the hotel, spa's restaurants and everything inclusive in their establishment. I think the only casino that we prove more beneficial to the city of Detroit will be the Greektown Casino and Hotel because while it is still trying to compete with the other 3 casinos, it still allows street access to the hotel, the restaurants and the proposed shops to the public whereas once you get inside the MGM and Motor City you can pretty much stay inside the casino your entire trip. Also note the fact that when the Hotels are all complete, it makes Detroit a bigger player in bringing in more mid-range to large conventions. The casinos increase the number of hotel rooms in the area, they also provide for nightly enterainment and food to convention delegates. In addition when the issue of casinos was finally passed in Detroit, it was written(I believe) that if the proposal passed that up to 5 casino licences could be granted. This leaves open the possibility of Detroit adding two more casinos in the future. So a Vegas we are not, but an attraction to tourist we can be. if you even go past the Greyhound bus station, just take a look at how many people get off of the bus and head straight to the MGM. We get good business from Cleveland, Toledo, Columbus and Cincinati on a daily basis. That constitutes as helping the tourism industry to me. Others Sure,if neighboring states prohibit gambling No. I love to gamble but would never make a trip to Detroit for it. Vegas is much better. I can tell you that I went to Detroit and spent the night so we could gamble at Greektown. Besides the hotel we ate at a few restaurants. We didn't do much else because it was February. So if you don't think it's bringing extra dollars into your city you are crazy. Well...since they opened in Detroit, I no longer go into Canada. And it would seem that every time I go up to MGM Grand, it is absolutely packed up there! I go up a lot for baseball, hockey, concerts, etc. and the casinos keep us in town a little while longer. Of course it helps.Anything that brings jobs and money into a community helps. No, only people who go there are people from Michigan. Who would come to Detroit to go to a casino? I live in Detroit and go to casino windsor. |
