I am visiting Detroit and want to eat at a historic/old restaurant within citylimits. Any suggestions?

Travel Info
I just finished writing a 12 page research paper on the history of the city and have decided to visit. Any landmarks still in existance? Anything from parts of Paradise Valley to Dr. Sweet's house?

Dan, you asked the question of an eatery with historic value..It just disgusts me when others have to give their opinion of the city and not answer the question.

Here is an answer to your question.

Try Mario's in midtown for one of the finest Italian meals. The filet mignon is the best I have ever had. There are 7 courses for dinner so come with an appetite. There are a lot of pictures gracing the walls of the famous who have dined there as well.

You may even want to try Union Street. Great Food and service as well. it is located on Woodward Avenue, also in Midtown.

Something new with an Old Feel to it...Slows BBQ on Michigan Ave a few blocks west of The Old Tiger Stadium. Source(s): http://www.mariosdetroit.com

wouldn't come here. if you did, visit greektown or the casino and do it during the day!
Detroit didn't really treasure any of its history. If you want fine dining, go to "The Whitney", if you want casual, go to "Hockeytown cafe". And if you decide to stay at a hotel in Detroit, go to a 5 star or something to be safe. To be completely safe, stay in Utica and grab a cab or bus downtown. :)
Trust Me
Lafayette coney island is like an institution
the Whitney is in a grand old home/estate
Traffic Jam & snug - great food and has a fun history - check it out really
nect to the main library is a great museum with the "old ctreets of detroit" in the basement - it's really something worth seeing!
you can try the Whitney , but i heard it changed somewhat, but it is very historic and a very beutiful mansion that was turned into a restaurant, definatly worth checking out. Greektown is overrated, and lacks the historical feel.
