Which of the Great Lakes MI has the best temperatures for swimming? |
Travel Info I have a 3 year old son and 2 year old twin boys and we are vacationing July 4th week Travel Tips as a former wisonsinite who grew up on the shores of lake michigan and vacationed on the shores of lake superior.. the water temperature of those two great lakes is generally Very cold. but will also vary , and suprise, on literally a day to day basis. i have experienced both one day being extremely comfortable to swim in, strangely tepid, and the next day so icy cold you can barely keep your feet in the water for a few seconds.. all during the hottest of summer days. but no matter the water temp, great beaches, with excellent shallow sand bars great for hanging around and in the water abound! Others Lake Erie would be overall the best, as it is a shallow lake that warms up quickly. The Sandusky area, along with the Bass Islands (Put-In-Bay) are great for vacationing. That time of year, the southern portions of the lakes may be ok- Chicago... Muskegon etc.. they are all pretty cold.....lake Mich. if I had my way its a little cleaner to me. We swam in Lake Huron and it was really nice. Superior is really cold. LAKE MICHIGAN, late may thru late Sept usually yooper girl I would have to agree lake Erie over by ceder point gets very nice in the summer |
