What is the Detroit Greyhound bus station like?

Travel Info
I'm traveling next week via greyhound and I have a 4 hour layover at the Detroit Greyhound station.. I was wondering what this station is like and how safe it is? Thanks :)

Travel Tips
You'll be fine but it's no place to hang around ... it's boring.

The trick is to get away, but not too far away.

Stow your bags in a locker and walk over to the MGM Casino and get lunch at their buffet. The buffet costs about $15 and is pretty good and fresh. If you're creative you might be able to take a doggie bag back to the bus. They do frown on take-outs so be aware.

You can gamble if you don't mind losing your money, but it would be better to just people watch.

The Casino is about a 1/4 mile away and you can see where it is on google maps. Use the hybred feature. Source(s): http://maps.google.com/maps?um=1&tab=wl&...

The Superdome after Hurricane Katrina.
It's not great. There are a lot of homeless people that hang out in the bus station, among others. It's not in the worst part of town but it's not the best either. Keep your valuables put away and your bags in your sight at all times. There is a Burger King a few blocks away if you need food during the lay over (you can look it up in the yellow pages and then find it on mapquest). Other than heading out for food or drink, I would stay put in the station during your layover. Be careful!
Its alot of traffic in and out of there. But I would advise you to be aware of your surroundings and not to leave your bags laying around. There are several restaurants like Southern Fire or Seldom Blues in the Rennaissance Center. Take a taxi and have dinner and by the time you come back, you should be ready to leave.
It's run down. Not that clean.
It's safe and like any other bus station. Dohn't hang around though, just wait for your ride and leave like anywhere else. DO NOT eat at the Burger King near the Bus Station. They have SLOW service and a lot of whinos hang around there. Go to the other nearest location on Gratiot ave. and St. Aubin st. if that's what you choose to eat. However, I recommend a trip to the American Coney Island on Michigan and Griswold for the best Coney Dogs in the World if you're looking for good, cheap eats.
