Travel Info Why is the Detroit area run down and will it stay run down? Travel Tips I was born and raised in detroit I know the city from front to back, let me start by saying that what you see on movies is not detroit. 8 mile only captures the essence of detroit. In real life the street 8 mile is a joke, and there is nothing "hard" about it. Detroit is run down because it is an old city. If you catch a bus in detroit and head out to the suberbs you will notice that as soon as you leave detroit the roads get smoother,there are new buildings, the street lights are more up to date and there arent anymore black people around. I already know that detroit is run down, but it is my city and it is known for being this hardcore crime infested city. ALL CITYS HAVE CRIME!!! Detroit is not so viscious that you cant walk down the street because if that were true then I wouldnt have been able to live here for so long. Detroit is run down because the mayor is young and seriously irresponsible. This guy spent tax payer money on a damn SUV and his own vacation. They are closing down over 50 schools in detroit after this year and no one seems to comprehend that these schools are an important part of our education as students. The reason that these schools are getting shut down is because of detroits student count day. Which was screwed up because the teachers were on strike when the year started. This made parents put there kids in charter schools not public schools and now all the public schools have low counts and not enough funding to keep the doors of the school open. Even with all of the negative press in detroit we still hosted the superbowl in 2006, my question about that though is if we hosted the superbowl then why the hell isnt there any money to help detroit. The city is screwed and I am sorry to have to say that. everyone in detroit is starting to move to atlanta which has been nicknamed "the new detroit". All I know is that my city is in need of real help Source(s): I LIVE HERE! Other Travel Tips its always been run down and yes it will always be that way. people don't care enough about their city. The economy in Detroit is horrible. People are losing jobs and schools there are shutting down. If the economy gets better, I believe the city will be renovated. I hope. It is the worst looking city I have every been to. Its run by an ignorant ghetto city council that refuses to put any money into improving the city. They put all of the money into their pockets. Because they thought nobody will learn how to build a damn car and now everybody and their mom knows how to making it easier for car plants to go other places to get cheaper labor leaving us jobless. also there are these damned people with no home training who don't take care of their propriety are making other homes and the city look bad and these litter bugs who throw trash any where and every where in the city. and it will stay run down until we find a way to clean it up and find new economy for the city like changing the motor city into a city with service business like hotels , restaurants and stores that actually hire city folks. lived in this dirty D for 21 years. ~:-(( |
