Our May meeting was full of information regarding the 鈥淣ext Detroit Neighborhood Initiative鈥? The program was officially kicked off on Wednesday, May 16, 2007 at the EEV marker sign located at the intersection of Chandler Park Dr. and Cadieux Road. The Mayor鈥檚 office and EEV hosted a press conference announcing the program鈥檚 goals and timeline, with Chief Ella Bully Cummings as our guest speaker and coverage by the media. The program puts EEV at the top of the list of Neighborhoods to receive additional help and financial aid to strengthen six neighborhoods located throughout the city. The overall plan incorporates city and private funds to reinforce the EEV and 7mile/Livernois neighborhoods while revitalizing the Grand River Greenfield and the Osborn area. The last two areas on the list call for an entirely new land use strategy. Those two areas are the North End and Brightmoor areas. We are very fortunate to be on the forefront of the program. We, as a neighborhood, have been working on the overall plan with the city since November of 2006. I would like to thank everyone who has been involved in this effort 鈥?the EEV residents for their great input and hard work, the Mayor and his team, and our surrounding neighborhood associations for continually giving EEV support on a daily basis. We will continue to update you and ask for your input at the monthly general meetings. The program will continue for five years and will encompass many different efforts, but the idea is to continue to grow the overall positive plan. Please find listed below a partial list of goals and objectives for EEV. For additional information regarding Next Detroit as well as an update to our NEZ Tax reduction plan, please join us at the June general meeting. Please note: if you are a new home owner in EEV, please make sure you ask about the new Tax changes with your home tax structure - it鈥檚 to your benefit. I have never heard of that and don't know where that is. ya Yes. Friends of mine raised their kids there until they had to move a few years ago due to a job change. It is very close to the Grosse Pointes so you can go swanky when you want to. The nice thing about the Detroit aspect of it is the multicultural feel.
