Is Detroit nicer these days?

Travel Tips
I am from Detroit and I get more and more depressed every time I return"home" for a visit. If you go downtown stick around Greektown have a nice dinner and go to the greektown casino......... other than that I wouldn't stray any farther unless i was with a LARGE group of people. And it breaks my heart to say that about my home the place where I grew up had a lot of great memories and experiences..

Nicer than when? The 1950s? Unlikely.
The 1980s? Maybe.
I'm not sure what you mean by nicer?!?
As in most big cities, crime is high. Lots of burned out buildings, lots of drugs, etc. But some areas aren't too bad. For the most part (even in bad areas) if you're nice to people, they're nice to you. Just don't make any enemies...
Downtown is nice but the hoods are still very nasty looking.
