Travel Info Has anybody been to the sleeping bear sand dunes in detroit michigan? if so tell me about it!!? Travel Tips Sleeping bear dunes is a national park very near both Little Glen (lake) and lake Michigan. I have a cottage near there. Basically, it is a giant sand hill you get to climb. After you go over the first slope, there is an amazing view of Little Glen and the surroudning forest. Also it is fun to look at everyone in the field below. After the first peak, you can either go left, right, or strait. Left takes you to a lookout with wooden benches and some trees for shade. Right takes you on a LONG trial that goes all the way to lake micigan. Right takes you to a very steep slope that is fun to run down. I prefer running down the first (main) slope though, it is much longer (about a 10 second run down) all in all sleeping bear dunes is very fun and it is by far my favorite part of going up north... either sleeping bear dunes, or hiking in the woods. If you are in detroit, it is definatly worth visiting. There are plenty of hotels up there :) Others well that guy pretty much said it all. it fun and while there take the scenic tour it's worth it. take tons for pictures. as for going up the dunes don't wear sun screen found that out the hard way. have fun. it a good place for kids and adults alike. have a great time!!! COME BACK AND TELL US ABOUT IT! FYI sleeping bear dunes isn't in detroit it is in like glen lake. Sleeping Bear Dunes is a good four hours or so from Detroit. Look at the back of your left hand and think of that as a map of lower Michigan. Detroit would be down at the base of your thumb. The Sleeping Bear Dunes area would be way up on the outside tip of your pinky. And YES, it's a gorgeous area to be in, especially in summer. they are a blast!!!! however they are north west of detroit. The Sleeping Bear Dunes are not in Detroit, they are further north near Traverse City on the shores of Lake Michigan. They are fun to walk up on and go on dune buggy rides on. yes i cant tell u that much but it was fun lol i went a couple times as a kid. it's pretty cool. being the kid i was i had a riot rolling down the dunes. don't think i would want to get that dirty now, but it's a neat place to visit. |
