How did Detroit get so f^ckd up? |
Travel Info It makes all the other cities with problems such as SL and Bmore look nice. Do you think it will get better like Atlanta did/is. And did you know that the average home is only 88k - 107k compared to Manhatten (1.64M - 2M), Is it worth it? Travel Tips I lived a good part of my life in Detroit(born and raised) and I now live in St. Louis. There is nooooo comparison between the 2. For one thing the economy here is head and shoulders better. The people care more about their city and it shows in how the down town areas have been maintained and remain visitor friendly. Every time I go back to Detroit I leave more depressed that the time before. The racial tension between Blacks and whites and throw in the Arabs is at a boiling point and has been for some time. The last time I was in Detroit was June of '04 and was at the Freedom Festival. There was violence, guns shots fired, and people injured. Days later I was back in St Louis and went downtown for for the 4th of July Fireworks on the Mississippi River, and there wasn't a single act of violence. And I had a blast and felt safe to boot. Detroit got so F-ed up because people like the mayor of Detroit back in the 70's Coleman Young were hired mainly because he was a Black Man. Just like the Mayor the last time I was there in '04. Making poor decision(s) that benefited a few($) and hurt so many. That and the fact that Detroit never tried to reinvent itself with another source of industry solely depending on the auto industry(s). Now with unemployment continuously rising home foreclosures at an all time high in Detroit(1 out of every 80 homes). Detroit is doing too much too little too late in the revival of the "downtown" area. My Poor City.................... Others I doubt that all of Detroit is "f^ckd up" - It started with the White Riots of 1967; what started as a small revolt turn into a full city riot and 40 years on it still hasn't recovered from it. Detroit currently is turning over a new leaf and renaissance is happening. GO DETROIT! Not a Detroiter but a person who has studied Detroit and has hope for the city and its people. We didn't vote for Bush so hes going to screw us anyway he can . I see homes allot cheaper then that they need a face lift but well worth it . That's the reason i peachiest a house here because i could afford cash for it . As soon as bush is out then i think all will be well and there still building the casinos and allot is starting to change . Blame the last generation and their idiotic racism that caused the riots. get over it and get into detroit! it's up to us now!!! VIVA DETROIT!!! There are good parts and bad parts. Comparing Detroit to Manhattan is laughable, two totally different types of cities. As stated before, the riots played a big part in the downfall of the city. Mayor Coleman Young played a part during his reign by stealing money from the city and our current gansta-wannabe mayor is doing the same. But thanks to events like the Super Bowl, MLB All-star game, last years World Series, etc, the main parts of Detroit are great places to be. Detroit is garbage because they have garbage low life people running the city. They are very unprofessional and ignorant and are very incapable of doing there jobs. |
