Travel Info What is your opinon of Detroit? Travel Tips Detroit is filled with a lot of hard working people who are stuggling to get by. There are alot of companies shutting down and good people are losing their jobs. The government is pumping more money into other states/cities instead of helping out the cities that need it the most. Just like New Orleans...they are not getting the help they need just because the majority of the population there is african american...same with Detroit. Detroit is the motor city and home of motown...it's legendary and it deserves it's props. Every city has it's good points and bad points. Others It's alright, depending on where you live. If you live in a neighborhood like mine, or in southwest Detroit, you'll get used to some things. If you were born here, you'll be calm in all kinds of stressfuk situations. Thats at least how I am. I live in a so- so area. There are a few good tourist spots, like the Detroit River, Hitsville USA, a few good casinos, a river beach, and a few good colleges in the suburbs. The school system needs work in a few places, but it's not too bad, but it would be best to live in a suburb. It's a bit nicer the farther you are from downtown. Make sure you have a car that can survive potholes: Michigan in general has the worst roads. Also, the weather changes here almost without warning, but it's usually not too bad. I like it here, but I was born here. You should ask someone who visited before you take my advice, because they may have a completly different story from someone who lived here all their life. i think it sucks.. hey but thats just me.. im more of a west coast guy I guess it depends if you are talking about in Detroit or outside of it. I live about an hour from it and where I live is nice. A lot of my family consider Detroit to be all of Michigan, so it helps to define what area you are asking about. I go to Detroit all the time and I have never had a problem. It is a lot like other cities, you got the good parts and the bad parts and the parts that they are working on.... although Michigan it's self is always a work in progress. I think since I moved here 7 years ago there has been non stop construction downtown. With the onslaught of the Superbown a couple years ago they have cleaned up a lot of the area around the stadium and the freeways going between the airport and downtown. Slop Getting worst everyday.
