What do you think about the city of Detroit? |
Travel Info In your opinion, What is the cause of the city of Detroit to decline rapidly? Especially the public school system. What do you think should be done to improve the city? Travel Tips Detroit is a good city that's just in need of some help. I spent 18 years of my life living in Detroit, in the same house on the west side. I wouldn't trade that for anything. Detroit has the same problems that any urban city has. The city is also slowly but surely being cleaned up. Abandoned houses are being torn down and there are new low income house being built. I'm not saying that it going to get better instantaneously but it's on the right track. There are more after school programs and summer programs opening to keep children off the street. As well as police raid in different places to keep drugs of the street. As far as Detroit's school system, I believe that their should be a better process for hiring teachers because some aren't even certified and how is that helping a child. If that's the case anybody could wake up one day and say "hey I think I want to be a teacher" and that's what kind of happening. There are very good schools in Detroit however, as I went to a blue ribbon school. So like I said before Detroit is a good city and it's improving. Others The reason why Detroit has declined is because of greed. About 10 years ago, Detroit had to send back 3 million dollars to the government because they did not use it for it's purpose which was to implement new programs in DPS. Police brutality, injustice, poverty, and affordability are also reasons why the city continues to decline. Detroit's City Council is a joke and the personalities are in disharmonie which does not allow the council to function properly, people really need to stop electing their cousins for positions they know they're incapable of doing. But, if you look at it another way, it's exactly what some people wanted. The city is on the come up and if you are not living in the city in the next 5 years you won't be able to come back because housing will be $1500 to rent on average. If Detroit had better public services such as Policemen who worked with the public and not against them people would rat out the rats without giving it a second thought, this communication makes all neighborhoods safer because criminals will always have in their minds that they might get caught. Stop the divide. Detroiters support Michigan. We pay more for healthcare because individuals are at higher risk of death. We pay more for car insurance, because, we live in the city that house the most criminals in the State, they must be stealing the most cars in michigan. They've simply contained us, control us, and dictate our next move, there are no options for the less fortunate. The way to improve the city is Detroiters need to become more neighborly and stand up for something, because if your neighbor or family isn't alright you shouldn't be alright with it just because you're doing alright. Sticking together is what Detroiters need to learn, everyone else does it but us. Better local and state government needs to be put in place. What was being done in the school system twenty years ago? It was much better then. They need to go back and do research. Spend some $ to fix some buildings try to get more big time events in Detroit and 4 the schools just try to keep the kids in the school The City of Detroit is a corrupt city that is filled with crime, abandoned buildings, and does not offer too much in the form of entertainment. Segregation generally (1967 riots, 8 Mile rd.) and the lack of a diverse economy. Andrew V: 1. Where is the money coming from? Will NY or you pay for all of this. 2. KNocking down all of our vacant buildings will make us nothingbut a prairie. We already have some of the most suckish density for a major city. |
