Travel Info Hey I Just moved to Detroit....where are places you can go where swimming is open to the general public? Travel Tips Well, first off, welcome to Detroit! :). I've lived here all my life, and it really isn't as bad a place as everyone seems to think. Anyways, on to your question. As far as public places to go swimming goes, i'd recommend Chandler Park Water Park, which is located on Chandler Park drive just off Conner on the East side. It's really nice, and relatively new. Plus it's a great place to bring family and friends..not to mention it won't break your pocket to go visit. The second place i can think of is Belle Isle Beach. It's really nice since they've added a lot of things like a water slide and changing facilities. They've also got life guards on duty. Another great place is Metro beach, but since i haven't been there in a while there might be changes that i couldn't describe here. There are a lot of great pools in the parks around Grosse Pointe, but the only downside is that they're private, and admittance is determined on which area you live in GP i.e. people from the park can't go to the woods' park. Sooo..basically to get into any of those you're gonna need to know people from Grosse Pointe and use their guest pass. Hope this helps you out, and good luck :). Oh yeah, if you'd like to swim during the winter too, they just opened up this great new YMCA downtown!, so you should check that out too. You will meet lots of great people. It is like THE place to be if you are new to Detroit. There are tons of people around the swimming pool and basketball courts. You will make lots of friends. Bring some extra cash too, because there are lots of cool guys selling nifty things that you may want to buy, and they don't give credit. Chandler park is really nice. I think Belle Isle still has a swimming pool as well. |
