What do you think of Dominican Republic? |
Travel Info And what do you think of Dominicans Travel Tips What do I think ? Fabulous....heaven on earth.....with a little bit of the 'Wild West' thrown in. There is everything here, plus some of the nicest people in the world. More variety of countryside than just about any country I have visited. People prattle on about 'freedom', without really having an idea of what they speak, here we have real freedom, you can get and do pretty much whatever you like, without too much interference, but remember, that has it's price as well, it means that everyone else can do the same. So you have to take responsibility for your own actions, and you have to guard against people imposing their cr*p on you. But on the whole I choose this, even though it can be tiring at times. One of the things I like the best is that this country is the only truly non-racist, multi-coloured society allows people to be who they are, not the colour of their skin. In fact this is so much so that it is 'normal' for people to refer to each other as 'moreno', or 'prieto', which mean 'darkie', or even 'blackie', and it is not taken as being offensive. I believe that in this respect, and several others, the Dominican people can lead the world in showing how human society could improve radically. We have our share of *ssholes here as well, but it seems to me that we have less than most other places. I have been resident here for 10 years, and I am still loving it. Others I have been there several times and a sort of bitter-sweet feeling the people is great and the beaches specially in the east side (Punta Cana) rate among the best in the world but there is too much poverty and social difference that you realize once you get out of your hotel I totally agree with the above statement. Like many countries, it has it's beauties, both in the people and the scenic environment, but the majority of the people there live in poverty. Shouldn't come to a surprise as many Latin nations seem to be in those shoes. Very huge gap between rich and poor. Overall, the people in general are friendly. I know a few peeps whose parents are from the Dominican Republic and they too are very friendly and proud. My mother said she absolutely enjoyed it, although like many others she was deeply upset by the grinding poverty. The beaches were beautiful and the people were friendly. We have been to Dominican Republic 3 times. We visited Puerto Plata, Punta Cana and La Romano. We had a fantastic time. In our experience we found the people nice and very warm. I think the women are attractive and sweet. The men have a good sense of humor. The poverty does get to you especially the children. The hotel staff work very hard to make sure you are enjoying your vacation. We have found speaking some spanish goes a long way in this island. I would say, that it's a great place to visit and enjoy. s |
