Travel Info Dominican Republic. What are some things to do (and things to avoid) there? And PLEASE don't give the link to the website (we've got that). I would like personal experiences of what's good and maybe not-so-good about the place. I've never been there. Safety issues? Health issues? Fun places to party issues? Travel Tips It's not really safe to leave your resort at night, stay at a hotel that has a disco and nightly entertainment , which most do to avoid disappointment. =) Others My daughter went there and up until then I had never heard of it. She had a wonderful time. Don't drink the water and be careful of the food. Take Amodium AD with you. They didn't leave the compound they were in so she didn't have any safety issues. She said there was plenty to do all the time and the weather was like heaven every minute they were there. They go some where different at least once a year so she is a good critic. you have all night beach parties every weekend & they are great, you can buy barbeque foods, pizza, drinks etc... safety issues, don't stray into local neighbourhoods after dark, you do get the armed forces patroling the streets, but it isn't safe don't drink the tap wter use a condom if you get off with anyone, as aids is prevalent there during the day, you do get alot of sellers on the beach, but they do usually take no for an answer if you say it firmly apart from that, it's fantastic, enjoy it, It's a beautiful country & well worth going I wish my company did a company vacation to DR.... I've only ever been to the north side of the island, but I'll give you some advice. Only drink bottle water (and don't forget ice too...my hotel had a mini fridge and I would fill this with bottled water). Everyone I know that's been to Punta Cana has never left the area of the resort. If you do venture out, ask the hotel if they can provide a guide or recommend a taxi driver that will take you around (don't venture out alone). Never encountered any health issues other than mosquito bites, so bring plenty of repelant. As for safety issues, again, if you aren't familiar with the area, don't venture out alone. I've been traveling there forever visiting family and building a home there, so I feel comfortable traveling around the cities and such by myself, but it can be difficult to navigate the many streets if you aren't familiar with them. HAVE FUN!! It was amazing. We stayed at the Sunscape the Beach resort. We can't wait to go back. It was like Paradise. The Beaches are nice make sure to bring water shoes if you are going into the ocean. The coral is sharp. The food was amazing, there were I think 7 resturaunts in the resort, we didn't get sick once. Don't drink the water, there is always bottled water in the rooms. I would wash your face and hands also with bottled water. The employees were great I still talk to two of them, we email once or twice a month. You should have a great time. If that is the resort you are at you will have a blast. All of the activities were entertaining. We also did an excursion. We went snorkeling and swam with the sharks. Which was a really cool experience. I hope you have fun Punta Cana is "the golden prison tourist zone" wich means there is nothing to do outside of the hotels! the nearest town is at 49 km! I suppose you go on holiday with your company as "incentive travel" so for that you can best take contact with platiniumtravel@yahoo.com they know all about and organize it for you! The company money must be spend well not? Dominican Republic is a beach destination. Most people never leave their resort. The resorts have entertainment at night with audience participation. It's a lot of fun. If you are into different gem stones, amber and larimar is the stone to purchase in DR. The only health issue is being prepared for intestinal upset. The food and water is different from home. I take Acidophilus gel caplets with food a week before traveling and continue on vacation. This promotes Intestinal health. I also travel with Imodium.
