Punta cana riu palace or punta cana excellence?

Travel Info
My wife and I want to go to an all inclusive in Punta Cana. I've narrowed it down to two: riu palace and excellence (formerly secrets excellence). We want peace and quiet, so no rowdy drinkers/partiers or kids running all over the place.
Because excellence is adult-only, it may be quieter than riu palace, but it is older and rooms seem a bit run down from pics and reviews. That is one of the reasons why it no longer seems to be a "secrets excellence" chain. The riu palace is a LOT newer, but I think kids are running around everywhere.

And anyone know which place has the better food?

We plan on going in August. So if anyone has been to either of these places, your input would be greatly appreciated. thank you!

Travel Tips
I would suggest the RIU palace, they have outstanding customer service, very good value for your money, and it's a beautiful resort.

They are both very nice resorts. Even though Excellence is older, it is rated #4 out of 317 resorts on trip advisor for popularity. The Riu is rated #8.
I think it would be a good idea to read some of the reviews on trip advisor. http://www.tripadvisor.com click on Dominican Republic and than Punta Cana. They also have guest candid photos to view.

Have a great time. Good Luck

As a Certified Dominican Republic Specialist and Travel Consultant that sells a lot of Punta Cana, I can tell you that you're in an extremely enviable position! The beauty here is that you really can't make a bad decision. I can tell that you've done your homework. Be careful and specific here - there are two resorts named "RIU Palace", and they're right next to each other - there is the RIU Palace Punta Cana and the RIU Palace Macao.

Yes, the Excellence Resort is older the RIU Palace Punta Cana, but it is also higher rated and "adults only". Many couples need that "adults only" feature, and select Excellence for a little more piece and quiet. I continually get high-level feedback from the folks I send there - most of whom are honeymooners or young(er) couples. The only negative is that the Excellent, depending on traffic, can be as much as 90 minutes from the airport, and it is further away from most land-based activities.

I was at the new RIU Punta Cana Palace in May right after it opened - WOW!! Drop dead gorgeous - great beach, and excellent food! Actually, all the RIU resorts in Punta Cana line-up one right after the other on this beautiful stretch of beach, covered with palm trees. The RIU right next to us was the RIU Palace Macau, also a beautiful resort. Next to the Macau was the RIU Bambu, then the RIU Tiano, both a little down-scale from the "RIU Palace" resorts, but really nice places. I found the staff to be great at all of them, as I walked down the beach and sampled the food and beverages at them all. While there were some families there, I did not feel that "kids are running around everywhere". A lot of families do not select the RIU Palace Punta Cana based strictly on price - it is not an inexpensive resort to take a family of 4.

Punta Cana does not have many off-resort activities or places of interest - its kind of a laid-back, chill-out and enjoy your resort vacation. All hotels have tour desks for the dozen or so tours that are available.

Enjoy your vacation which ever resort you finally select. I hope this information was helpful.

What the "Travel Specialist" told you is the right answer! If you want to go on vacation to lock you up in a Hotel OK! If you want to
discover a more than beautiful country then you have to go to
Puerto Plata region, more possibilities, the best hotels (also RIU)
much more excursions (more than 35 different). Anyway enjoy your
hollidays!
