Travel Tips Punta Cana is the name of a region in the easternmost tip of the Dominican Republic, thats all i know! Others point of the palm tree Punta=Point Cana=Blond Maybe it meant Golden Point..... Hi!, The real translation of Punta Cana is: Punta = Point (in this case land end) Cana= (sugar)Cane Like other one? Puerto Plata = Silver Harbor Named like this by C.Columbus.(1496) The easternmost part of the island it is the TIP=PUNTA. CANA is the PALMA CANA (a type of palm tree) that is abundant in the Dominican Republic and that beach area was full of that type of palmtrees, that is the reason that they started calling the beach area PUNTA CANA and the name stuck. Who knows?? =) Punta= Highest point of something Cana= Leave of the the palm tree. Meaning the highest point of the Palm tree. |
