How far is the airport in Santiago, Domician Repulic from Puerto Plata, DR? The airport in Santiago' s cheaper |
Travel Info I am traveling to the Dominican Republic and wanted to know how far the airport in Santiago is from Puerto Plata. I am planning to stay in Puerto Plata and noticed that it is much cheaper to fly into Santiago. I would like to know if it is worth (time, distance, money) arriving in Santiago then catching a cab to Puerto Plata or should i just pay the extra $200 and fly into Puerto Plata.. Please help. Travel Tips Sorry to disagree, but I would absolutely NOT fly into Santo Domingo if your final destination is Puerto Plata. Your transfer would be from the absolute southern shore to the absolute northern shore of the island. That's a four-hour trip! Yes, you can get a new, modern, air conditioned bus for $6.00US one-way, but I wouldn't want to start or finish my vacation with a four hour bus ride - that's about a day lost at each end of my vacation! I'm sorry that I don't have a bus schedule to offer you. As far as taxis go - if the fare is $100US each way (which I really don't think it could be) - that's $200US round trip. Where's your savings? Do your self a big favor and fly directly into Puerto Plata (POP). I have pasted a good DR transportation reference website below. Other Travel Tips Hey im glad that you really want to go visit the island i come from because im dominican and it makes me happy to know that. anyway to got from Puerto Plata to Santiago is almost 2hrs long so i would rather you suggest to go and take the trip to Santiago. Oh and have fun i know you would enjoy the trip very much.....!!!! :) I always fly into Santo Domingo. It's the cheapest flight for me and I have a taxi waiting for me. You can also take a bus. They're very cheap and modern. From Santiago to Puerto Plata the taxi will be around $100.00. The airport of Santiago is about 1 1/2 hour from Puerto Plata because of the road conditions and you have to cross Santiago.
