The zona franca businesses of Verison and other call centers are steady employment where an English speaker can find employment but the pay is very low, and you may be fired for a whim even after working hard over time to get a job there. Your best paying jobs are US companies who send you there. Small businesses that sell eats from carts do well, aimed at the Dominican population rather than tourists. A low investment portable hot dog, or other food cart may not sound like much of a business but you can earn a living as opposed to the many grand pipe dreams most foreigners lose their money with there.
