Can you stay in Dominican Republic for as long as you want?

I'm in Canada. Is just a passport alright? Do they just look at it or stamp it or what? Can I tell them I'm staying for a week and then just live there for a year or something?

Hi Canadian! Well you can stay if you want but you need to
pay a fine after 3 months. That fine is not very high so no problem! I know I live there for 13 years! The best is to come over with a open return ticket so If you are bored you just fly back home.

They sell you a tourist visa at the airport which is good for 14 days. The fine is small and for a year will cost you under 100 US dollars.
