I am traveling to the Dominican Republic and I want to know what type of phones work there.? |
Travel Info I want a phone in which I don't have to pay a monthly bill or anything. Just that I can use it whenever I want by paying for verizon phone cards there, located in pharmacies, shops, calmados, etc. Is there such a thing, or do I have to pay for a service? Travel Tips Any sprint phone works there. Once you get to DR, go to an orange shop and they will help you out. Others Yes, no problem! You can use "Codetel" (ex Verizon) or "Orange" (I use this one) and buy phone cards from 60 to 300 rds. You have also "Tricom" but less used. Welcome! A tour operator Gilbert My verizon phone always works down there (I live in D.C.) If you don't want roaming charges, just get those calling cards in the colmados. You'd be surprised. The last time I wnet, I spent like $40 pesos and had a BUNCH of minutes. I live in Miami and my Cingular cell phone works there with the roaming. As soon as you get there the cell phone company Orange, welcomes you. Try these phone cards http://www.phonebell.net/p/?id_from_coun... http://www.phonebell.net/ If you have Verizon, the only choice is to go to a company called CODETEL, buy a package at around 10 US dollars and they will let your phone work on their system with prepaid cards. You won't receive any call on your US number therefore no roaming charges. You must understand that you will get a new number and when you get back to the USA, you probably have to go to a Verizon Customer Service for an update on your software, otherwise your USA number won't work.
