You don't want the hassel of having to worry about if someone is going to jack you up while you're on vacation. The D.R has a lot of poverty, so it's better to be safe than sorry. Don't invite unwanted attention! Keep it simple! No matter where you go on vacation, you should try to attract as little attention as possible. So yes, leave your jewelry at home. Keep everything simple. You want to enjoy your vacation, not worry about being robbed. If you want to keep your Jew-els don't wear them for safety. there's now tourist police which keep watch of the touristic areas but, if you ask me I think they don't a fly.
