Would you recommend the Occidental resorts in Punta Cana or Puerto Plato? |
Travel Info I have the option of either the Occidental Grand Flamenco in Punta Cana or the Occidental Grand Flamenco in Puerto Plata Which one is better? I have read good and bad on both any advice? Travel Tips I spent 1 week there last July with a group of 11 people. We had VIP treatment which means we got to visit all of the hotels on the compound (about 11). It was great and we had a blast. It was all inclusive with at least one bar open at all times of the day (we're in our 20s so that was a plus). The staff was great and very helpful (our reservations were booked incorrectly and was fixed with no problems, no hassling what so ever). Food was great (if you want to make reservations for one of the restaurants do it the first day you get there as they get booked pretty quickly). Lots to do. I'm Dominican and knew the area pretty well so I was able to take my group outside of the hotel as well (like Sosua and Rio San Juan) so that they got to see more of the country as well. If not, at the front of the hotel they have taxi drivers that will take you places and wait for you while you're browsing. Great beach. There was a bonfire our first nite there which was so nice (I was there with my boyfriend so it was so romantic...try a nite swim too but be safe...lol) Check out Club Mangu which is on the compound (about a 15 minute walk from the hotel) and there's another 2 near the main shopping area on the hotel compound (can't remember their names). All in all, we had lots of fun and our planning our next vacation (not sure where to yet). It was supposed to be an even bigger group and those that dropped out (to go to another location) couldn't believe we had so much fun...they were so jealous. I'll be going back again for xmas and can't wait. If you need more info, just email me Others Just some info for Gilbert. In the English language the words (I have lived here for about three years) means that I still live here. So please don't make statements that are not true. I think your advice is motivated by commissions. The beaches are smaller in Punta Cana but they are much nicer. I have lived here for about 3 years and I have been to both of these resorts. The one in Punta Cana is far superior to the other. Go with confidence. Not to mention the beach in Punta Cana is incredible. I hope that helps. What DRAKE told you is not completly wrong, the only thing is ( and Drake left the country) that now the beaches in Puerto Plata are far better than the small ones in Punta Cana. The Problem of the Occidental hotels they are made for mas tourism. In Puerto Plata you must try the Gran Ventana!! This is a excellent resort! web site www.vhhr.com, e- mail sales@vhhr.com I know I麓m travel agent. Gilbert We were at the Occidental Grand Flamenco in Puerto Plata and had a fantastic time - very clean, good food, beautiful grounds, friendly staff - was a bit disappointed in the beach but would definitely go back. |
