Currency in Dominican Republic?

I am going to Punta Cana and am unsure what currency to bring. I know they use DOP and USD is fine. My concern is some places exchanging at an unfair rate and ripping us off. I'm wondering how likely this is to happen.

Their currency is Pesos and they WONT allow you to pay in dollars so you need to exchange your dollars in the front desk of your hotel, They will rip you off but it's safer this way. Apart from that, you cant just go to the nearest town to change money (they will probably mug you) so it's much better to change small amounts at a time and have some pesos in your pocket for trinkets and stuff. If youre staying in an all inclusive you can tip in dollars. And you wont need that much pesos anyway.

It's very likely that you'll get ripped off on an exchange rate unless you know the current rate and refuse to let them get away with it. I always carry US dollars south of the boarder. EVERYONE takes them. If they try to rip you off just tell them you're not stupid and act like you're walking out.
Depending on where you stay and if the accommodations are prepaid, I would just bring a few bucks to change at the airpot on arrival, and after that withdraw from ATM's as you need money. ATM's give the best rate, and even if they give you a bad rate on the few bucks you change at the airport it won't make a big difference.

I never stay at resorts and spend a few thousand dollars every time I'm there, so I do pay careful attention to the rates, and ATM's are really the best.

Also, be careful if you pay in dollars. First of all not everyone really wants them because the dollar is so weak right now, and if you pay for goods in USD you will definitely get ripped off.

The cuertency of Dominican Republic it is Pesos but you can bring US dollars and change it in a banco or a ATM and they will give you pesos Dominican curtency! DOMINICAN THE BEST COUNTRY!!!!!!!
