in the town? Im stayin at the Bahia Principe Resort and i dont know wether i will be able to draw money out there. also, do most places take dollars? if so, then can i just take them and not Peso'.

Travel Tips
I went to the Dominican Republic last year and had no problem using my visa debit card. The only issue I had was that some businesses charge a fee to use your card and your card holder will most likely charge you an exchange fee. A lot of places welcome dollars, and will give you prices in pesos and dollars, but sometimes you have difficulty getting change returned in dollars. When you use cash make sure you ask first if they give change in dollars, if not go somewhere else or try to have exact change. Compared to the dollar pesos are worth nothing, and are hard to get rid of. Also make sure you know the rate of dollars to pesos so you don't get cheated.

Hi, I m a tour operator here, and yes you can use your card here no problem and this is the best way (safe) you take the amounts you wanna spend. The rate for the moment 32/1us
en joy your trip!
Most places accept visa cards, debit from another country im not so sure, but i think yes.
you will be at punta cana, most people will take dollars, hotel personel can be tipped in dollars (prefered) and at the hotel you can pay anything in dollars too.
at most places in the area they will take dollars, so dont worry.
oh and cash machines are everywere, if it belongs to visanet you can use most of them, but they'll give you money in dominican currency (pesos)
I have been to the DR twice and I would recommend using your ATM card to withdraw cash from the ATM, rather than using it as a debit card.

It is safer to use credit cards and pay them off when you get home. You dont want to risk putting your ATM Debit/check card out there where they can wipe your cash balance if it falls on the wrong hands.

Besides in the DR you can only use cards in the larger most expensive stores. In the DR there are a lot of street vendors, Colmados (mini-markets), and some services that only take cash.

So once again, I would recommend to take $200 dollars at a time, and carry one credit card with you. leave the ATM in a safe place and enjoy.
