Travel Info Heading out on vacation - any recommendations in the Puerto Plata area? Travel Tips There are loads of things to see and do there. White water rafting is quite popular -trips go out of Puerto Plata. Jeep Safari is good fun too. you can go to the Dolphin Place (sorry forgot the name) you can visit the windsurfers in Carbarete, you can go and see the nice little town of Sosua. You can go to Jarabacoa - bit of a trek but lovely - its where they filmed Jurassic Park. The beaches are lovely around the area. If you are into Amber - there is an Amber Museum in Puerto Plata. The Basketball games at the Stadium are always quite good. Dominican Basketball is quite full on - very entertaining! Gris Gris lagoon is another place to visit. Apart from that you have all the usual beach activities, helicopter rides, para sailing etc - Have fun!! Others My husband is from the Domincan Republic and I just got back on Friday evening from a 2 week visit with him and his family out there. Funny enough we spent a day in Puerta Plata. It is breathtaking you will love it. You have to see the beaches first and foremost. Every inch of that city is a must see. I would suggest that you also get some fish while you are out there. It is the best fish in the country. ( I am half Cuban) so I am partial to fish we eat alot of it in my culture. I suggest that you talk with someone at the hotel that you will be staying at or speak to a travel agent. Or better yet hit google search under sites in Puerta Plata in Dominican Republic and I know you will find something. I think you should also check out La Zona Colonial, in Santo Domingo.There you will find the first buildings built in America.
