I am going to the Dominican republic soon. Is it necessary to take malaria tablets? |
Travel Info as i have been told that they can make you ill Travel Tips No, they have it in Haiti not Dominican. Some people take it just in case but I don't think it is worth it. I took them for a bit when I was living in Central Asia but my friend who is a doctor in Africa said not to bother because the side effects are more annoying then it is worth. If it is a high risk area then fine but Dominican is very low and beside if you get it they just give you Diocyclian anyway and it goes away. I have known people who got it and they were fine in a couple days. they have docs so it isn't a big deal. Trust me you don't want to be taking Diocyclian on holidays because it makes you sensitive to sunlight and Mithliquin gives you freaky dreams. Others go see the doc, he will giv u a jab! Cost a few pounds but its peace of mind! Have fun in the DR! Yes you do need to take them, but check with your doctor. There were some quite a few years ago that made people ill, but I think these were for Africa. ive bin to dominican republic puerto plata, best holiday yet. ....but anyway i didnt take tablets or have injections, that was two years ago and i was fine. must say i do keep twitching, probably nothing to worry about.?? Ha have a lovely time. you should goto your doctor for all the ness'' innoculations... and make sure your tetnus is upto date...... If you are ever travelling anywhere and you need to know about the place go to http://www.fco.gov.uk/travel for all the advice you will ever need about that country - including Travel Health, Visas and passports etc. Have a nice time! take them if u know u've been bitten, if not just keep them with u just in case |
