How is life in santo domingo after u haved lived in the U.S all your life? |
Travel Info How is life in santo domingo after u haved lived in the U.S all your life? Travel Tips Difficult question. The answer depends on how you live in the US (lifestyle), and your general ability to adapt to another culture. In general life is similar with some exceptions... such as hot weather at times and rough storms in hurricane season. The infrastructure is being expanded and not bad in the main city, but as you venture out you will find what you expect... less of everything. Get used to different foods and thing we get cheaply will cost much more there. Local produce and fish are priced well, but dairy, meats, foreign fruits, gasoline, vehicles, and electronics are priced higher than here (some directly higher and some comparative the wages higher). If you do not know spanish begin lessons soon. The pace is slow there and you will need to fight impatience with service sometimes. Once you adjust and begin to relax you will enjoy it. Also keep in mind entertainment is very different there, so you will need to adjust your ideas of entertainment to avoid becoming bored. You will need to be much more sociable there (it is expected), and you will need to be intelligent on budgeting money as the dominican peso changes daily. I would suggest you open and maintain a US dollar account (there is an option for this). Have the bank issue you a VISA card attached to your account (similar to the check card systems here) to avoid carrying cash. Currently the DOP (dominican peso) is 33 to 1 US dollar Others Its a confusing time in my life, as I am in the same situation. My advice is just go into it wanting to work hard and make new friends. Thats my biggest regret, as I know few people here as of now. But I've been here for about 3 weeks. Hit me up if your ever in the area... Right on Sunsetsrbest1's! |
