Dominican Republic - Puerto Plata?

I'm going to be going here within the next couple months. I'm super excited!! Anyone have any reccomendations of a what to see / what to do?

Swimming with dolphins, horseback riding on the ocean...? What do you guys think I should do?

Hello, I was there last year and had a wonderful time...the people are so friendly and the hardest workers I have ever seen...Get a cab and go to the market...our driver stayed with us all day for like 20 dollars...Julian..he was great....Snorkeling is great there, our deep sea fishing trip was less than expected, no fish were caught at all, and the boat was less than desirable, but we saw a pod of whales and a giant stingray...also, we took a 4-wheeler tour that was alot of fun...very dirty when we got back...also we were told that the average salary of a worker there is $500.00 per year...our travel agent told us that they like "things" for tips at the hotels...I took one suitcase full of school supplies, candy, makeup, any small items not being used...you put them in a bag or on a towel in the bathtub...and the maids know that it is for them...if you leave it on the bed, they will only move it...they were so thrilled to get their gifts everyday....especially school supplies, they have school, but rarely can afford daily essentials...also on the 4-wheeler ride, you go out into the country and pass local homes...i took lots of candy, and the children's faces were priceless when they would see it...be prepared if you get a cab, there are no rules of the road, it is small, fast, and it is basically a game of chicken as far as right of way is concerned...and there are rum stands everywhere, just like little huts on the side of the road where anyone can just stop and drink...at the market, there is a bunch of tents with women standing around (local brothel) and if you are lying on the beach, people will come up and try to sell you stuff, if you ever talk to them, you will be aggravated the entire time you are there (we found out the hard way, except the massages on the beach were good !!), and I had one guy want to take me to my room to "party", I was glad my husband came back !! It is a very wonderful place, be safe and have fun !!!!

do as much as you can, i love the DR it is the best place to visit and vacation I have made so many friends over there that I still stay in contact with now that I am home, if you are there for a while go to the capital of DR it is so beautiful too, and check out the shops on the beach, there are usually flea markets on the meach coast, a ton of them and definatly go horse back riding in the rainforest, that was proabbly my favorite and most memeorable time....ENJOY!!!!
im from dominican republic so u should go to the beach they have some nice resorts so go check it out
take a trip on the local buses it will be the best $1 you can spend get to see a lot of the area plus the locals plus it's very safe
ps when you think the bus is full they can double the # of people in it
