I am going to santo domingo, dominican republic, any tips? |
Travel Info what to see, to do, be careful off, bargain on the mall? night life Travel Tips i studied in Santo Domingo for 5 years and I found interesting the following locations: -Museo del Hombre -El aquario -El Conde Peatonal (It's a pedestrian street with many shops)in the Old City -La Catedral (1st western world Cathedral) Old City -The old forts at the end of Old City -Los tres ojos (three holes of unknown depth) -El Faro a Colon (Columbus lighthouse) Shopping you can go to Acropolis and across from this mall is a big "La Sirena" or Unicentro I think they call it. They have great souvenirs for great prices. Others I was in the Dominican Republic a while back and visited Santo Domingo for a few days. It's really the type of place you want to leave the resort. Christopher Columbus' house in there, but DO NOT go out at night. The Dominican Republic is a beautiful country and it has many great places to visit, depending on your interests. If you wish, I can send you current literature about great places in this country, and, of course, recommendations to make your trip as pleasant as possible. International Family Aid & Support Center http://www.ifasc.org There is so much to do here! The best thing to do is to first of all get here. Secondly, make sure that you rent a car. If you are going to stay for very long, then you should really try to see everything that you can. This place is so full of history, that you will be overwhelmed by all of it. If you are looking for a mall, go to Megacentral on San Vicente and Mella. It's very much like an American Mall. The prices of things aren't much different than in the States, except for electronics - you'll pay a lot more here. Be careful at night. Try to stay with a lot of people. If a man asks you to dance, be careful how you turn him down - it's not uncommon for him to be pretty upset about you hurting his Dominican pride and pulling out a knife or a gun and thanking you for it. The best thing is to just enjoy yourself. Email me directly for more if you would like. |
