Jane was considered a tropical storm when it hit the Island and it effected Haiti and the most western parts of the DR. In 1998 George was a category 3 hurricane, which did extensive damage.

You seem to be extremely, irrationally concerned about hurricaines. You can track their path several days before they hit, so just don't go if there is one brewing.
