Cheap car rental in Santo Domingo?

I am going to Santo Domingo this comming May and I am trying to rent a midsize car. (For 4 people) and I haven't been able to find any good deals, they charge way too much per day and the insurance fee is outrageous. Does anyone knows where can I find a good deal? What about taxis, would it be better if I take a taxi wherever I go? What about public transportation?

depends on what you are doing,
1-public transportation is not for turist, you'll end up totally lost.
2-if you wont be running around in the city, consider using a taxi, that way you'll rest more, cause not every one is prepared to drive in this city (driving here can be caotic), use taxi companies, take city tours, taxis wont be expensive, depending on where you're staying and where you are going.
3-if you still insist on renting a car, i dont know hoe much you wanna spend but we have many options, budget, national, easy, and try the local companies, like ozavi rent car. search for it at www.superpagesdr.com

There are no "cheap rental cars" in Santo Domingo but I did rent a car from National by the airport on the Las Americas Hwy and they were O.K.
hello , i am hugo , i'm living in santo domingo , and i know a cheap renta car company it's NELLY rent a car and the car cost for a day is US$40 por a midsize car , if you want a small car for just drive in the city it's could be very cheap.
