Travel Tips
Oh excellent you are staying the same hotel I stayed at in September 2006...!!
We went for 2weeks from 13th-27th Sept... I must say the weather definitely started to change the last 2 days we went. The sun wasn't out as long, and it was getting abit overcast.
BUT you will have an excellent time!!

1. It was sunny until about 7pm
2. Yes. Well I didn't but my fianc茅 did... You will get the option to go to Ocean World.... http://www.oceanworld.net/ this weblink will give you an idea about the prices etc.. he really enjoyed...
3. Yes i must admit i did have a few bites, but it is honestly bearable... none of the have left scars or anything... the same went for my fianc茅 (who is white) he doesn't have any scars..

Well as you are staying at the same resort, I will tell you about it..!!

Me and my fianc茅 went to Dominica Republic for 2weeks in September and had an excellent time!
Yes it is a 3* hotel, so the room is EXCELLENT, but it is clean, with 2 massive bed, and loads of space. Trust me you won't be staying the room a lot of the time... your on holiday!!

They have a good selection of food, breakfast, lunch and dinner... They have 2 al carte restaurants, which you can only go to once a week. Make sure you book at breakfast time, for that evening鈥檚 dinner. You can do a buffet lunch where you have you dinner or there is a pizza place near the main pool area, if your a sun worshipper, and want to eat by your sun lounger..!

You MUST try a Banana Mama... please please remember this drinks name... its excellent, its a trademark for the hotel, and lovely... you can have it alcoholic (rum) or non alcoholic... umm.. Lush!! Don't drink too much of it, or you will be on the poo... believe me! lol

If you have children, or want pool entertainment, stay at the main pool, they do volleyball, water polo etc in the pool, the entertainer are EXCELLENT... There is also 2 sessions of water aerobics, 1 in the morning about 11, and 1 about 5.30.. good if you have eaten a little too much..!
If you don't want to be sun bathing around all that, go to the pool next to the buffet restaurant, its really relaxed and quite there..!

Starting at about 8am there is transportation to the beach.. It comes every 10-15mins, but we always walked... it鈥檚 only a 10min walk..! The hotel has its own section on the beach along with its own restaurant, so you don't have to go back for lunch, or drink... and stay by the beach all day..!
The evening entertainment was very lively, and good... They had a different act on every night. It started with a children鈥檚 entertainment, then they get the adults involved, then they put on the show...

..After the show they will tell you about going to various bars locally, they will put on transportation for you as well... this says alot about the hotel club... (which is crap! lol). The cocktails in the bars outside of hotel are VERY strong.. There are loads of legal cabs outside, and they are very friendly.

..By the buffet restaurant there is a 24-hour bar.. well, he sometimes starts sleeping on the job, and when we went to wake in at 4am, to ask for a drink he was none to pleased!! He filled it half with alcohol ... we could hardly drink it..... so we just went to bed... i guess that was the point, so we didn't bother me! We found it funny though... They also have hot dogs and burgers, in the buffet restaurant all night...!

Excursions:
We went for 2 weeks and spaced it out with 2 trips per week. VIP Private Island was excellent! The food, drink, coral reefs, staff, was all excellent - plus my boyfriend proposed, so it was a favourite of mine!
They have Ocean World, were you can do shark, dolphin, sea lion, or string ray encounters, or experience... your food is included with the day pass, but bring cash for drinks and photos taken if you do any of the encounters or experiences with the animals. They also have a bird and sea lion show was is excellent! http://www.oceanworld.net/
Catamaran was another trip we did, which was definitely worth the money!! The food and drink was lovely. The staffs were excellent!! We went with a company called FreeStyle. It was very lively, with water fights with the other boats, 2x 1hr stops for snorkelling, and you can also get good quality underwater photos for $10 each.
Our hotel also put on a bar/club crawl, which we thoroughly enjoyed...
They also had go-karting, quad biking in the mountains, Jeep Safari's, horse riding... and the list go on... you we definitely have plenty to do!
Tip: umm... we had conflicting information on whether to bring Dominica Dollar, or America Dollar, so we brought 1/2 of each.... found it best to use their own currency as each shop had its own exchange rate, and we ended up losing money transferring it from US to Dominican Dollars..

Have a good holiday - sorry if i have gone on loads, but i loved it here, really reasonable holiday, with excellent weather, and lovely food!!! Email me if you want to know anything else!

The weather in the Dominican Republic as in Puerto Rico and the rest of the caribbean islands is all year the same, Tropical weather, the climate is about 68 - 90 degrees F. During the months of nov - jan the sun puts away at aprox. 6pm and the rest of the year about 7-7:30pm. The high insects season finishes in nov. because of the raining season. But don't worry for that, they won't harasse you. Enjoy your trip, and the best of all It's a cheap island with good food, nice people, and all inclusive resorts.

Unlike other parts of the country we don't have a rainy season on the North Coast. We also haven't historically had a direct hit from a hurricane. We only get rain when a hurricane passes by. This year was a very dry hurricane season because not many hurricanes.

It gets dark at around 7:30pm at that time of year.

You can swim with the dolphins at Ocean World which is in Confresi and about 25 minutes away from where you are going to be staying. You can book it from your hotel and a bus will pick you up and return you. Ocean World is fabulous and run by a German family that has another Theme Park in the Bahamas and run a great place with many things to do. I highly recommend Ocean World.

Also check out the Teleferico which is the cable car that goes up Mt Isabella. Lovely gardens and spectacular views and well worth the trip.

Try and also spend a day in Sosua and Cabarete which are two big tourist beach towns and very different. Cabarete is known for surfing, wind surfing and Kite surfing which is amazing to even watch. Cabarete attracts a young sports minded crowd that is active during the day and parties all night at clubs and restaurants on the beach Sosua has a 3/4 mile beach lined with gift shops, bars, restaurant and protected by a reef on the second half so it is very tranquil. The town is a party town at night with many bars and discos.

Take plenty of sunscreen and bring bug spray. Not terribly uncomfortable but good to have anyway. SUN is out to get you here so be careful if you burn easily.

If you get to Sosua stop into Quixote's Restaurant on the main street inside Hotel Europa. The owner has been known to give out lots of helpful information even here:)

Enjoy your trip and for HEAVENS SAKE get out of the resort.
well i have been to Cuba in November and it was nice and hot but we did have a few showers but they only lasted maybe half an hour every other night which when you have been in the sun all day you don't really mind
one thing good about Dominican republic is that the summer never ends! you can swim with dolphins in playa dorada and
it would be as cheap as you can imaging. but you would have to deal with the mosquitos. that would be your main issue, but besides of that it's all fun
