Travel Tips
Puerto Plata has an exciting nightlife filled with many things to see and do. Most of the resorts will have evening shows with dancing, singing, costumed performers, Merengue lessons, karaoke, beauty pageants and more. Each hotel or resort will have its own entertainment lineup.

Resorts such as the Occidental Allegro Jack Tar village which has now changed to Holiday Village Beach, Mangu and the Paradise Beach Club also have casinos that are open to the public. Mangu and Paradise are both small and they actually keep cigarettes handy in a glass on each table. There is a minimum to play and they are fast - they don't wait for you.

Within the Playa Dorada compound are a number of popular evening hotspots such as Hemingway鈥檚 in the Playa Dorada Plaza, Crazy Moon - Sunday is a good night here to dance the meringue, bachata, reggae ton and some hip-hop. Fun and all ages, the locals usually hand out passes that come with a free shooter.

Also check out Paradise Beach Club and the Mangu Disco in Jack Tar - it's located in the Caribbean Village; their best night is Tuesday and it caters to a younger crowd - very late teens and early twenties and very old white gentlemen with very young local girls and they all seem to love it!

Travelers who want to go off-resort to party with the locals can explore El Malecon, the wide boulevard that stretches along the oceanfront in Puerto Plata city, where there are numerous restaurants and nightclubs playing Merengue and salsa music. For an authentic and rambunctious experience of Dominican nightlife, La Barrica heats up after 11 pm with Caribbean and Latin music. Just outside of the Playa Dorada gates, Caf茅 Cito hosts a pub crawl that begins at Fort San Felipe and moves on through some of the clubs of Puerto Plata before continuing toward the Sosua and Cabarete clubs and beach restaurants.
